As a young man in business I was given this advice by a senior partner at a major consulting firm. Basically if anyone offers you to take a bathroom break then do it and if you are passing one and have time do it. I suspect that Senior Partner was probably the same age as I am now and with age and male plumbing does come shall we say certain needs but as he explained it this is only part of the story. If someone is suggesting that you use the facilities it could be that they are concerned for your welfare, but it could also be because they need a few moments to do something. I have often noticed this when arriving somewhere and the greeter who has been sent to collect you needs a moment to resolve a badging issue or signal ahead some observation.
As for why go at every opportunity, well that may be an older guy thing but I know it has saved me many times in long but very engaging meetings. The absolute worst thing is to have to answer the call of nature right at that one key moment of the meeting. I have so many times sat across from someone who is visibly in discomfort yet they simply dop not want to, or cannot afford to get up and leave.
