Why are Tuesdays, or the second day of the working week, the most important?
In most businesses where a weekend signals a disruption to the business the first day of the working week is often very reactive. Things happen when your business is either closed or on minimal staffing and that backlog needs to be dealt with. After all a lot can happen in 2 days. So generally Monday’s are a recovery day. They can also be a travel day for larger events, or in companies with reasonable travel policies where they do not expect employees to travel on Sunday night to be in position early on a Monday. So Monday is not a good day for scheduled meetings. In most cases the backlog is cleared by Tuesday, so have those status and planning meetings on a Tuesday morning. For short term actions you now have three and a half days to action them in. Three and a half days is half a whole week.
The best run businesses no matter their size and the best leaders I have worked with have recognize this and have Exec Leadership Team (ELT), staff meetings and operational reviews on Tuesday. It gives both the opportunity to reflect on any fire drills that occurred over the weekend and were resolve or at least triaged the previous day, and gives time top complete short term actions before the next weekly cycle.
